Constructive Capitalism
We can only prosper if we contribute to the prosperity of all.
Emanuel Bronner believed that a company has a responsibility to “Share the profits with employees and the land that produced them!” His son Ralph called this approach Constructive Capitalism, and we practice it in every dimension of our business—from the products we make, to our supply chains, to our activism and charitable giving, to our relationships with employees, customers, and suppliers. It’s important to us that our products have a real and positive impact on the people and communities that globally contribute to them.

Business as a Force for Good —Why Dr. Bronner's is a Benefit Corporation
In July 2015, Dr. Bronner's became a Benefit Corporation in the State of California. A Benefit Corporation is a for-profit company that has a positive impact on society and the environment in accordance with legally established goals. These goals are described in our bylaws and are evaluated according to standards from third-party entities (Dr. Bronner's is evaluated according to B Corp standards from B Lab).
A Benefit Corporation may also identify additional public benefit targets. Here are ours:
- To raise public awareness about environmental and social problems.
- To produce products and source ingredients that are Fair Trade certified and, whenever possible, USDA certified organic.
- Promote fair compensation: pay executives no more than five times the total compensation of the lowest-paid permanent employee.
- The growth of Dr. Bronner's and our pursuit of public benefit are driven by our social and environmental activism.
We are also B Corp™ certified.
The B Corp™ certification is awarded to for-profit companies by the non-profit organization B Lab that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
The B Corp™ certification is a useful measurement tool, issued by a third-party entity, in assessing our compliance with the performance and transparency goals required to remain a Benefit Corporation.
The B Impact assessment model, used by B Lab, allows us to define objective standards and evaluate our performance over time.
As a certified B Corp™, we are now in a larger alliance with other companies that are committed to defining ethical and progressive business approaches.
