Fair payments: good for business—good for everyone!

During 2016, Dr. Bronner's—along with Business for a Fair Minimum Wage, The Fairness Project, and other leading natural product producers—used packaging and educational in-store media to garner consumer support for federal and state initiatives to raise the minimum wage. In total, in 2016, Dr. Bronner's allocated over $500,000 to this cause.

A higher minimum wage is not only right for the millions of hardworking Americans (the current minimum wage is outdated and doesn't even cover basic needs), it also makes economic sense. Higher minimum wages boost the purchasing power of consumers, on whom businesses and communities depend for their livelihoods. Businesses also benefit from lower employee turnover and increased productivity, product quality, and customer satisfaction.

Raising the minimum wage will benefit us all:

  • Helping the economy: Workers who earn more spend more, putting money back into the economy.
  • Reducing income inequality: Workers will earn a larger share of company profits, which currently go disproportionately to shareholders and senior executives.
  • It does not lead to job losses: The most rigorous studies show that raising the minimum wage does not have a significant effect on employment.
  • It boosts small businesses: When large companies stop paying poverty wages, it creates a level playing field for small businesses that invest in their workers and their communities.
  • Ending corporate welfare: US taxpayers are now bearing the costs of employers who don't pay a living wage – most minimum wage workers depend on public assistance to survive.
